305 heads on 350 circle track

1986 GMC 350/700r4/np208. Swapped out the 305 (spun rod bearing) for a fresh crate 350. The only components in it I haven't replaced are body panels and interior - and I'll be doing interior this summer. Ol' Billy Goat ain't much, but it's all mine and I love every second I drive it.

    Yes they are your typical chevy based circle track rules. A 49lb crank is based on a chevy crank so I don't know how they will enforce that one. I would go for cubes and as light a rotating assembly as possible. Use Aussie heads if possible and ask if you can run the Rochester carb. Inversely, puting 350 heads on a 305 will sh*t-can your compression (down into the high 7s) so that won't work either. 350 heads have 1.94" intakes and performance heads have 2.02" intakes and bigger exhaust valves as well.

    Watch using 305 heads, if they came from a TPI car (Camaro/Firebird) the intake manifold bolt pattern is different. GM did that to prevent a 350 TPI manifold from being used on a 305. That's up to you, but I'm gonna tell you right now, they ONLY way your gonna get 500 HP out of a 305 and it live is gonna run very high $$$ and by the time you are done with it, you could have had a 900-1100 HP 350 or 383 for the same price. Of the commonly availble ones that take standard intakes and valve covers, some are good (601, 416 castings) and are basically a 350 heads with smaller valves and chambers, and some are just crap (450, 434 castings) that don't flow worth a damn.

    Jeff is completely wrong everything in the 305 and the 350 are the same exc. bore 350- 4" and 305-3.736. Rods are 5.7,stroke 3.48,main journal 2.45 and rods are 2.10 this is for both 350 and 305. As far as boring it to 4" the sleeves might be to thin. May work for awhile or may be to hot. Not with the investment in my book.
